    Celtic Weekend Update

    Monday, September 24, 2007, 8:53 PM [General]

So...What a weekend we had at faire. It was Celtic Weekend. Kilts and pipes and dancing, oh my! This has always been one of the best if not the best weekend at faire, for the patrons, the vendors and the actors. We just love the Celts in Pittsburgh! Many of my friends that are vendors were saying this has been their best selling weekend, and that they had to replenish their stock this week for our final weekend. It would be wonderful if every weekend could be like this past weekend. Hopefully with more advertising and word of mouth next year's faire will be!

One of the highlights of Celtic Weekend is the "Men in Kilts" contest. On Saturday there were a lot of entrants, including Joe and Chuck. Joe was just a total ham; it started on his walk to the stage and just continued on. The crowd loved him (he is just too darn cute and funny). Joe made it to the final round, (yay!), Chuck did not (boo) (he'll have to take some pointers from his brother on working a crowd!). But, alas, there were 2 small brothers (aged 3 and 6, I think) and an older gentleman in the final round, my Boo came in 3rd though, which still rocks, and received a nice Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival messenger bag (see photo)! I feel very lucky to have such a great man in a kilt! Afterwards we caught some step dancing and just had a great time visiting with friends and enjoying the day.

Saturday brought yet another great Celtic day at faire. Made even better by the fact I was put in a kilt! And damn, I looked good in it! You almost never see women wearing actual kilts, sure they will wear plaid skirts and even some will wear cheater kilts (I'm just as guilty as the next female), but an actual kilt with pleats and such, not too often. I got a ton of compliments and told people where they could get their very own kilt. I even entered the "Men in Kilts" contest (I looked at it as one small step for the ladies!). The "MC" of the event just loved the fact that I entered, there was one man in a kilt that wasn't too happy, he was in a Utili-Kilt to boot, if he was in full Highland gear I could see him getting upset but come on. And besides, they knew I was a female when I signed up, I used my full name, Christine, not just Chris. And it really is all in good fun anyway, get over it. Well, they saved me for last to go on stage. I was a bit worried, there were mostly females in the audience, but they were just so thrilled to see a female that they just about blew us off the stage! Both Joe and I made it to the final round, he was yet again working the crowd like there was no tomorrow. And I, of course, took lessons from him; in fact I learned my best move from him, the bum wiggle! Joe won 2nd place Sunday, a lovely red Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival mug. And the winner is......Christine! Yes, I, Christine, won the "Men in Kilts" contest on Sunday! I proudly accepted my beautiful blue Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival mug from our Queen (she loved the fact that she was handing it to a fellow lady!). And I told them "Someday we'll be able to vote too".(see photos of mugs) By the time I made it to the Pub, everyone had heard. Of course I was showing off my winnings to any and every one! We just had a blast, by far the best day on shire yet this season. After that we spent the day once again enjoying the company of our friends and taking photos and just relaxing and having fun. I have a ton of pix to go through and post, that's my lunchtime project. Joe, Red and I ended up at the Cracker Barrel after faire, Red and I try to make it there at least once a season, since there isn't one closer to us. And we heard the Steelers won so all in all it was a great Sunday!

Now it's back to work and looking forward to our final weekend at faire...just seems like it started and it's almost over. At least we know that we will have another faire next year (he's a businessman, he's not closing up shop after 1 season) so that makes it a little less sad. And we have other things to look forward to such as Fall, Halloweenie, Thanksgiving and the Winter holidaze. And before we know it it'll be Spring time and we'll be looking towards the next season of faire. Time sure does fly, huh?

Well...Have a great week everyone! See you next weekend at faire!!! :(|)
